No Soliciting

So recently I'd seen a funny thing floating around
on, yup, Pinterest...
it's very specific and funny, so
I made one for our front door...

Unless you're selling thin mints

early Sunday morning when the doorbell rang,
we all laughed and said "can't they read the sign??"
The hubs said "Oh my gosh it's a GIRL SCOUT!"
We all started busting up laughing and said
"yeah right no way..."

when he opened the door this sweet little munchkin
probably couldn't figure out why we were all laughing..
but her dad said "Well your sign said unless you're selling thin mints..."

Last Sunday we had the amazing opportunity to hear
Bethany Hamilton
speak at a nearby church!

Oh my gosh, she has a BLOG!!!
click here to check it out

That's the one word that comes to mind
to describe the morning.
If you thought your problems were too big for God,
think again.
Bethany reminded us that God has a plan, and
sometimes we don't see the big picture...
we can't figure out why things happen???
Anyhow, read her book, check out her blog,
rent Soul Surfer:) you'll be inspired, too. I know it.

the book is amazing

you can watch a short documentary on YouTube
but if you haven't seen Soul Surfer, rent it!!

the lights showed up really bright on my iPhone,
but nonetheless here she is on stage with the pastor....

this was the line out front...
we waited a few hours, but it was so worth it!

Bethany shared this verse "For I know the plans I have for you..."
Jeremiah 29:11
Pinned Image

my mom, Hol, her boys, and my girl...
what an amazing day, so blessed to have heard Bethany share her story:)

What I'm Reading

Real books or the Kindle?
yikes I don't know which I prefer!
The hubs got me a Kindle for Christmas,
and I certainly love it....but I'm teetering...

anywhooo, this is what I've been reading lately:

I LOVE Picoult's writing, reading this on my free time...
The Pact: A Love Story
The Pact by Jodi Piccoult
you can find it on Amazon
(used from $0.01!)

and this:
Far different than Picoult...Connelly is my fave mystery writer
(I juggle between at least two books at a time. always.)
Product Details
The Drop by Michael Connelly

For work, reading with my core language arts group:

Product Details
The Giver by Lois Lowry
I'd never read The Giver before (although Number the Stars
is one of my all time favorite books, also by Lowry)...
a terrific sci-fi (although not what Lowry would
categorize the genre as...she said it is often name so)
makes you think about the rules we place on ourselves in society.

War Horse: (Movie Cover)
War Horse by Michael Morpurgo
Just in the library, an ENTIRE class set! Yippeeee!
My intervention class will be the FIRST to read from these!!

The Outsiders
The Outsiders  by S.E. Hinton
Awe, we just finished this last week, all time fave...
tons of kids HOOKED on reading thanks to Hinton!

How lucky am I that I get paid to read at work???
What's on your nightstand (or desk if you teach language arts)??
Any suggestions to add to the Kindle?

Happy happy Friday! It's almost February, yikes!!
Time flies!

a few pics from the week...
a cover I crocheted for my Kindle:) was meant for
sunglasses but I'm still brushing up on my skills!

our cat thinks this is her bed, every night she is planted here
when my son gets ready to hit the hay!

not instagram but can you see the
woodpecker right here? directly below at 12 0'clock...
this guy was in our backyard while the hubs did some work,
he spotted it and said it's gonna be a big year! haha!

SO if you haven't tried Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps....please do!
They are awesome!...

inspired by my pal Veronica over at Kingdom Heart Mom
and made this cute burlap "be mine" banner...

little hearts all around...

lastly, how cute is my teenage son with his scarves?
he adores soccer and is collecting scarves,
for the purpose of decorating his room:)

have a wonderful wonderful weekend!!!

Easy Peasy Bunting

I sooooo love buntings!
I whipped this up from an old tablecloth...

If you have some fabric scraps or an old tablecloth,
you can make this in a snap!
I just made a template for the triangle shapes...
used the finished edge of the tablecloth already in place
(I cut the longest edge to use for the main seam of the bunting)...
then I pinned on the triangles and stitched them along the edge...

after sewing along the edge you can flip it over and iron it down...

awe! a quick little bunting from fabric a tablecloth:)
one of the kids said "that looks familiar..." then they
realized it was a tablecloth in its previous life-hehe!

Cinnamon Banana Pancakes

For What's Cooking Wednesday it's breakfast for dinner night!!
My kids totally {love} these nights, and really gobble
up pancakes with stuff mixed in like these...

Cinnamon Banana Pancakes

One ripe banana, mashed
Cinnamon sticks and grater or ground cinnamon
Pancake batter:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 1/4 cups milk
1 egg
3 tablespoons butter, melted

In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Make a well in the center and pour in the milk, egg and melted butter; mix until smooth. Add mashed banana and fold into mix.
Heat a lightly oiled griddle over medium heat , pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, use about 1/4 cup for each pancake. As soon as you put the batter on the griddle grate cinnamon onto the uncooked side (or sprinkle cinnamon), flip when bubbles appear and brown on other side. Serve with the goodies you love~ butter, maple syrup, peanut butter?? yum! enjoy!

sprinkle cinnamon as soon as you drop batter onto pan or griddle...

I've gotta add this! My middle son loves Jack Johnson, and
last summer we had the chance to attend a super fun concert of his...
just hearing this song makes my kids instantly request
Banana Pancakes for dinner....so cute, I love it!

but not too close to the top...
